Collection: Mushroom Spawn

Spawn Storage & Handling Spawn is a living organism, which needs to breath (but not dry out) and be kept from temperature extremes. Do not expose to any direct sunlight. Refrigerate any spawn you do not plan on using within two weeks of receipt. During the inoculation process keep spawn covered as much as practical to prevent drying and subsequent spawn death.
Most spawn remains viable for months with refrigeration. As spawn matures it will turn brownish black in a process called “barking over”. This is normal and does not effect the viability of the spawn. To test spawn viability, shake the bag to expose fresh surfaces, then store at room temperature (70 F) In 3-7 days a white, fuzzy growth should be evident. If its good.
